Mono-extrusion system
for the high-performance plastic PEEK
Bellaform has implemented a mono-extrusion system for the high-performance plastic PEEK (polyether ether ketone) in cooperation with our customer Evonik Industries AG from Marl.
Bellaform systems are outstanding for processing of PEEK, since they ensure a process-safe sequence even at high melting points of 330 °C. The extruders are heat-stable at up to 450 °C. The system is designed for slow cooling. This is particularly important when processing PEEK, since fast cooling of the pipes may result in an amorphous structure.

Equipment features:
+ The extruders of corrosion-resistant steels and chrome-containing bi-metals
can handle high temperatures.
+ In order to avoid heat loss, the cylinders are equipped with a special heating-cooling
combination (valve system for free convection and doublewalled isolation jacket).
+ The vacuum tank with adjustable water chamber permits a shortened cooling section.
+ The distance between the nozzle and cooling tank can be increased to reduce the
cooling speed.
+ The lower retention times in the wall area and the area close to the wall – both in the
extruder and in the tool – also reduce the cooling speed.
